Humans have a finite number of core stories we can tell—what we recognize as the seven archetypal narratives. These stories emerge from our history, personal experiences, and even the epigenetic past, shaping our collective unconscious and manifesting as recurring archetypes. However, we now find ourselves at a peculiar juncture: we have exhausted the fundamental narratives and their permutations. The moment this saturation occurred is difficult to pinpoint, but its consequences are increasingly evident. A void has emerged—one swiftly filled with ideology.
Contemporary creators appear to be caught in a cycle of replication, driven by a lack of trust in their own nature. Instead of new and original creations, they default to revisiting and modifying existing ones, aligning their work with prevailing cultural and ideological trends. Profits and fame is the incentive leading to conform to the conditions that allow creation. The result is a landscape where originality eroded, resembling the rigid framework of Socialist Realism—an artistic doctrine where adherence to an ideological playbook is required for participation. I will explore Socialist Realism in a future article so make sure to subscribe!
